Is College the best path for creative people?

The answer depends on what creative field you want to enter. Most of them will just require you to have a good amount of skills aka a stellar portfolio. College is a good place to make connections and work with people who have similar interests as you. Besides that, most of the knowledge can be learned on your own. Like the only way for an artist to improve is pencil mileage. You have to draw every day, you only improve by doing it over and over again.

I'm the type that really can't sit for hours to read a book about photography even though I love photography. I prefer to do it and learn from doing. It's like a basketball player who just wants to play but is forced to watch a game. There are a lot of people who fail to find jobs even with their college degree because their portfolio might not be up to par with some people who didn't go to college. The reason is they were self-taught, they had to learn everything on their own and had to force themselves to draw every day in order to get better.

Some people will get the degree just because they want the security of the degree. If you get a bachelor's degree more jobs will open up to you, you would be able to teach elementary school, teach English in Asia, and much more. I think that this is not the worst path and I don't judge anyone who is going to college for security.

There are a ton of resources available for anyone to become better at their chosen profession. But you can only get better if you use that information rather than just write it down. You need to be practice, remember Michael Jordan wasn't good in the beginning he had to work hard to get where he ended up.
